Scholarship Opportunities to attend the Preventive Health Conference 2025, Canberra

Applications close Friday 14 March 2025

Applications are open for two scholarships (one general and one student) to attend the Preventive Health Conference 2025, 28-30 April, 2025, in Canberra. More than one scholarship may be awarded in a category if there are no successful applications in another category. These scholarships are intended to facilitate individuals who would not normally be able to attend the conference, to participate in this exciting PHAA event. Applicants should be studying, working or have an active interest in, a broad area of public health. Applicants do not have to be a PHAA member to be eligible. The award will comprise funds of up to $1200.00 for conference registration, PHAA membership for the current or next financial year (depending on the awardees membership status), and to help support accommodation and travel.

Scholarship Eligibility:

  • The applicant must reside in NSW.

  • The applicant does not need to be an existing PHAA member as the opportunity is open to existing members and non-members with an interest in public health.

  • To be eligible for the student scholarship, you must be a student in a public health degree or similar degree, at a registered university.

  • To be eligible for the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander scholarship, you must identify as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

  • We encourage diversity and inclusivity and applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

  • PHAA Committee members and student subcommittee members are not eligible to apply.

Scholarship Assessment:

  • Applicants must complete the Application Form below or a short video (maximum 2 minutes) and attach a brief curriculum vitae (no more than two pages) and submit as one document. Material beyond the word limits in the form, or over two pages (curriculum vitae)or longer than 2 minutes (video/audio) will not be assessed. Applicants should include details of their interest in public health.

  • Applications close midnight Friday 14 March 2025.

Selection Process:

The NSW PHAA Committee will select awardees based on:

  • Applicants’ anticipated benefits of attending the conference.

  • Applicants’ contribution to public health through public health practice, voluntary work, community-based activities, research, or PHAA committees or events.

  • Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously been awarded a PHAA scholarship.

  • Preference will be given to applicants who are not presenting at the conference or who are not otherwise already attending the conference.

  • Successful applicants will be contacted in the week commencing 24 March 2025.

  • Successful applicants will be required to write a half-page article or prepare a 2 minute video about what they gained from attending the conference.
